How to Link a Jira Work Item to the Current Version of an eSign Document

Background

Jira work items can be configured to display links to a specific eSign Document ID in Confluence. When this happens and a new document revision is created, by default the link to the eSign Document will lead to the now obsolete version, and not the updated one. In order to automatically update the link in the original work item to keep the most recent revision of the eSign Document linked, use the ‘eSign Document Link’ macro available in Confluence.

First, add the ‘eSign Document Link’ macro to any page in Confluence and configure it to point to an existing Document ID. The specific page does not matter, only that the macro is formatted to lead to the document you want linked to the work item. When clicked inside Confluence, this link will redirect the user to the latest revision of that document series.

Step 2 - Connecting the Document to the Work Item

Copy the hyperlink from your newly created eSign Document Link macro and paste it into the Jira work item as either a description or a web link.

Now when a user clicks the link in the Jira work item, it will take them to the latest document revision released. The link will automatically redirect to that new revision (not the obsolete one) without any further tinkering.

Notes

  1. Regarding automation, the link pattern is predictable so with the Site Name and Document ID a script like the one below could create the link in one of the Jira work item fields:

    1. https://[SITE_NAME].atlassian.net/wiki/plugins/servlet/ac/edoc/doc-redirect?ac.docId=[DOC_ID]
